Back to School

I'm not even going to be creative with THAT title. It says it all. We are back to school! Teachers started last Thursday, August 11th; kids started yesterday. My voice was hoarse from all the talking by 11:00 am. Kids need to know that they're in the right spot with all the right books and supplies and taking all the right classes. Some kids come in cool and laid back. Some are basket cases. I worked until 7:15 last night to deal with the minutia that stems from screwed up schedules, incorrectly issued books, missed busses, etc.

Having said that, yesterday was more sane than the previous 12 that I've taught. Hopefully in our little setting (we're a small alternative school in Kokomo, IN), the kids feel safe and secure. I hope they know we want them here and that we'll take care of all the details one at a time until we've worked everything out.

It's Just My Opinion, but I think kids shouldn't feel anxious about starting school. They should be psyched. Hopefully, the staff is, too!

Hello World!

Hey everybody! This is my first blog posting ever. I am a language arts teacher in a small alternative school in north central Indiana. I have decided to help my students begin their own blogs to encourage them to write and to continue to improve their computer skills. I figured that I should have a little experience with this medium before I asked them to venture out there in cyberworld.

I'd be grateful for any encouragement or ideas! I'll be learning along with some of my students. (Some of them have "mad skills" already, so I don't doubt at all that THEY will teach me plenty!)
